Sometimes it takes letting go of the past to find out who you want to be.

During his semester abroad, Griffin Reed almost gave his heart to a girl who loved someone else. Lesson learned. Now he’s home, where following in his father’s footsteps may not be what he wants, but it’s what his parents expect. It might be taking the easy road, but he doesn’t see a way out.

Something that could have killed Maggie Kendall took away the person she used to be instead. Her condition makes her dependent on sticky notes, photos, and medication just to get through each day. The last thing she needs is a distraction—or someone new to disappoint.

What they refuse to see is they are perfect for each other. Maggie makes Griffin want to be a better man, and he makes her believe a future is possible. But these two have to find a way to share the secrets ripping them apart, if they’re ever going to have a chance at happiness.

About the Author

AJ Pine writes stories to break readers’ hearts, but don’t worry—she’ll mend them with a happily ever after. As an English teacher and a librarian, AJ has always surrounded herself with books. All her favorites have one big commonality–romance. Naturally, her books have the same. When she’s not writing, she’s of course reading. Then there’s online shopping (everything from groceries to shoes) and, of course, a tiny bit of TV where she nourishes her undying love of vampires, from Eric Northman to the Salvatore brothers. And in the midst of all of this, you’ll also find her hanging with her family in the Chicago burbs.
AJ's debut New Adult novel, IF ONLY, is out now with Entangled's Embrace line. The companion novel, WHAT IF, releases December 8th. Next year look for her new duo of New Adult books, ONE NIGHT and ONE LIFE with Penguin/Intermix.

5 stars

What If was an amazingly beautiful book that blew me away with it's unique story. I wish I could give this book 5 millions stars. It was fantastic and beautifully written. Right from page one, I was sucked into this story. I stared to read it, and literally could not put it down.

I have never read any other books by A.j. Pine and didn't even know this was part of a series (which I went and quickly bought her other book as soon as I finished this one). This can totally be read as a stand alone.

Maggie is a girl who has a memory disorder. It was obvious right from the start she can't remember things. She leaves little post it notes for herself all over the place. She sets alarms and takes pictures of people so she can remember them. My heart broke for her. She is so young and dealing with so much. Maggie doesn't let her disability get her down. She is very independent and manages to work and attend school and lives alone.

Then Maggie meets Griffin. Griffin is your typical spoiled rich kid. Don't worry, you wont hate him. He knows he is a knuckle head ;) He has his own issues he is dealing with. When he meets Maggie, something changes for the both of them. They build a strange friendship, because neither of them wants more. Maggie has her reasons for not dating (memory related) and Griffin doesn't think he is relationship material.

Their friendship made my heart melt. Little by little they both chip away at the walls each has built up for themselves. Maggie doesn't share with many people her memory disability. She likes to keep people at a distance. Somehow, Griffin manages to wiggle his way into Maggie's heart.

To say I had tears in my eyes almost this whole book would be the truth. I had tears, not because it was sad, but because it was so beautiful. This has to be one of the BEST books I  have read in 2014. It was unbelievably beautiful and touching.
